Nicor Gas Main Installation on Shermer Road

Nicor crews began installing a gas main across Shermer Road and northwest along Church Street on April 10 as part of infrastructure modernization. The northern portion of the Shermer/Church intersection is reduced to a single lane, and both northbound and southbound motorists should expect delays. Work will continue over several weeks and will include service connections and roadway restoration.

Village Hall Sidewalk Replacement

Starting April 13 (weather permitting), Public Works will replace sidewalks in the Village Hall rear parking lot in two phases. Three spaces near Phase 1 close the week of April 13 and reopen April 20; two spaces near Phase 2 close the week of April 20 and reopen April 27.

Shermer Road Corridor Improvements: Willow to Walters

Work resumed the week of April 6 on Shermer Road between Willow Road and Walters Avenue, including installation of a new traffic signal mast arm at Willow and Shermer. Upcoming work includes removing temporary asphalt, pouring sidewalks on the west side, laying sod, and preparing base material for a shared-use path on the east side. Approximately 48 spaces in the West Commuter Parking Lot remain temporarily closed; overflow parking is available in other Metra commuter lots, including north of Shermer accessed from Cedar Lane by Village Hall.

Development Updates: Reserve of the Brook and Mariano's Gas Station

Demolition of the former Our Lady of the Brook church at 3700 Dundee Road is complete, with site work for the new Reserve of the Brook 53-unit townhome development starting soon. Separately, Mariano's at the northwest corner of Skokie Boulevard and Dundee Road is proposing a new gas station on the south side of the store; the Plan Commission unanimously recommended approval at its April 7, 2026 meeting.

Hazardous Waste Pickup and Drug Take-Back Opportunities

Residents can request at-home pickup of household hazardous waste — including paints, batteries, cleaning products, and fluids — through the LRS HHW program; April sign-ups result in May collections, with additional sign-up windows in July and October. Contact LRS at 844-633-3577 or service@lrsrecycles.com. On Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., unused or expired medications can be dropped off free and anonymously at the Northbrook Police Department, 1401 Landwehr Rd., for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

Upcoming Village Board Meetings

The Committee of the Whole meets Tuesday, April 14 at 6 p.m. in the Terrace Room, followed by the Regular Village Board Meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the Board Room.
