The commission reviewed logistics for Climate Action Day, scheduled for May 26, 2026. Liaison Kate Carney reported 17 exhibitors have signed up so far, and discussions covered the RSVP list, a plant giveaway, and poster and flyer distribution. Whether trees will be available depends on remaining stock from the Tree Giveaway event planned for May 22.
Upcoming Community Events
The commission highlighted a slate of upcoming sustainability-related events, including an Earth Day Recycling Drop-Off on April 25 at the Metra Parking Lot, a Solar Power Hour co-hosted with MREA and CUB at Village Hall on June 1, and the Flamingo Friday Kick-Off on June 5. Commission Membership and Leadership Notes
Chair Reynolds reported meeting with other commission chairs and noted the Sustainability Commission's experience differs from other commissions; he said he will work toward common ground. He also noted that Brian Bruce Sr. is still seeking a replacement for his role at the Community Garden, and asked members to suggest candidates. Member Knight announced this was her final meeting as her term has expired; Liaison Carney said she will look into finding a replacement.
