Upcoming Board Meetings
The Village Board meets twice on Tuesday, April 28, 2026: a Committee of the Whole at 6 p.m. in the Terrace Room, followed by the Regular Meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the Board Room.
Earth Day Recycling and Drug Take-Back Events (April 25)
The annual Earth Day Recycling Event runs 9 a.m.–noon at the West Metra Commuter Lot, accepting electronics, paint, batteries, and clothing. National Prescription Drug Take Back Day runs 10 a.m.–2 p.m. at the Northbrook Police Department, 1401 Landwehr Rd., and is free and anonymous.
Home Hazardous Waste Pick-Up
Residents can request at-home pickup of paints, batteries, cleaning products, and fluids through the LRS HHW program; April requests result in May collections. After sign-up, residents receive a kit with instructions and a confirmed pickup date. Questions go to LRS Customer Service at 844-633-3577 or service@lrsrecycles.com.
Gas-Powered Leaf Blower Rules
Gas-powered leaf blowers are banned most of the year and are only permitted during the Spring Clean-Up window (April 1–30) and Fall Clean-Up window (October 1–November 30); use is prohibited December through March and May through September.
Arbor Day Plantings and Tree City Honor
The village planted trees at Hickory Point and Shabonee Schools, including one along Laburnum Drive and a Bald Cypress along Pfingsten Road south of the Shabonee School drive. Northbrook earned its 32nd consecutive Tree City USA designation and its 26th Tree City Growth Award from the Arbor Day Foundation.
Lifetime Fitness North Shore Opening Anticipated in June 2026
Construction on the first phase of the Lifetime Fitness North Shore Sport and Racquet Facility at 1300 Techny Road is nearing completion, with opening expected in June 2026. The project is an adaptive reuse of a former fitness club.
Wood Oaks Junior High Traffic Separation Plan
Following a public hearing on April 21, 2026, the Plan Commission recommended approval of a site plan to separate bus and car traffic at Wood Oaks Junior High. School District 27 proposes annexing the corner of Walters and Sanders into Northbrook, consolidating parcels into the school parcel under IB Institutional Building zoning, to allow construction of a bus cul-de-sac with a sidewalk connection to the school. The Board of Trustees will next consider the recommendation.
Police Recruit Alex Bernardino Graduates Academy
Recruit Alex Bernardino graduated from the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy (SLEA) and will now enter the Police Department's field training program. Police Administration attended the ceremony.
