Manager's Report — 31 Jul 2026: Skokie Boulevard Gets $2.2M Resurfacing Grant

The Northbrook Police Department updated its weekly police bulletin for the week ending July 31, 2026. Police Department representatives participated in a community meet-and-greet at Axelson Manor and welcomed an autistic child to the Police Department for a personalized tour. CEO Drewes and Therapy K9 Chloe presented at the Glenview Police Department's Youth Academy, providing an overview of the role of therapy K9s in law enforcement and their contributions to officer wellness, community engagement, and public safety outreach.

National Night Out – Tuesday, August 4 The Northbrook Police Department and Northbrook Park District are hosting National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Meadowhill Aquatic Center (1501 Maple Ave.). The free event includes swimming, K-9 demonstrations, games, giveaways, and snacks.

Northbrook Days Festival – August 5 through 9 The Northbrook Civic Foundation's five-day festival takes place August 5–9 at the West Metra Commuter Lot, featuring carnival games, rides, food from local restaurants, beer and wine, live music, and more. Public Works crews closed the West Metra Commuter Lot on July 31 to complete pothole patching and sweeping in preparation. Beginning August 3, temporary "No Parking" signs will be posted on adjacent streets and message boards will be deployed for traffic control. The West Commuter Lot will fully reopen to commuter parking on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

Storm Event — July 27 On Monday, July 27, heavy thunderstorms brought approximately 2 inches of rainfall to Northbrook, with rainfall rates briefly reaching 11.5 inches per hour and wind gusts up to 50 mph. Public Works received approximately 90 storm-related service requests, including nine reports of trees blocking roadways and eight reports of street and localized flooding. Crews responded to one water main break and coordinated a contractor to repair a second. Following the storm, crews conducted two full street-sweeping cycles to clear debris. Public Works is not collecting debris from privately owned trees but is providing residents guidance on managing it. Skokie Boulevard Resurfacing Project The Village has been awarded Illinois Department of Transportation grant funding to resurface Skokie Boulevard from Lake Cook Road to the southern Village limits. The project was awarded to Builders Paving, LLC in the amount of $2,247,438. Work is expected to begin in early September.

2026 Sidewalk Replacement Program A construction contract was awarded to Schroeder & Schroeder, Inc. on April 28, 2026. This week, the contractor began cutting sidewalk sections in Area 1 in preparation for removing and replacing defective concrete sections the following week. Cedar Lane Storm & Sanitary Sewer Work Greenbriar School's contractor completed storm sewer improvements near the southeast corner of the school this week and will begin backfilling, grading, and landscape restoration. Sanitary sewer improvements at the northwest corner of Village Hall and directly across Cedar Lane are ongoing. Residents may experience parking restrictions, pedestrian walkway detours, shoulder closures, and minor traffic delays. Shermer Road Corridor Improvements During the week of July 27, the contractor continued addressing punch list items on Shermer Road between Willow Road and Walters Avenue. Work on the concrete foundation for a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) at Farnsworth Lane is pending. FY 2026–27 Concrete Street Patching — Charlemagne Subdivision Schroeder & Schroeder, Inc. will begin saw cutting throughout the Charlemagne Subdivision on August 3. Streets affected include Brittany Road, Charlemagne Drive, Normandy Lane, Dauphine Avenue, Bordeaux Drive, Versailles Drive, Bernay Drive, and Anjou Drive. The project is scheduled for completion by November 2026. Residents may sign up for project updates through the Village's NotifyMe notification system. 2026 Water Main Improvements This week, excavation began on the north side of Grace Road. Construction at the Grace Road entrance will impact the entire westbound lane, leaving one lane open for both directions of traffic. Residents should expect traffic delays and follow on-site traffic control crews. Temporary daytime loss of driveway access may occur; residents will be notified by crews and a door hanger in advance. Fire Station 11 Construction This week, the contractor continued concrete placement for the south and west building foundation walls, with that work anticipated to be completed by the end of the week. Interior footing excavation, forming, and concrete placement are scheduled for the following week. Backfilling around the footings and foundation walls is expected the week of August 10, followed by installation of concrete masonry units.
