Manager's Report — 21 Aug 2026: Skokie Boulevard Resurfacing Grant Awarded

Upcoming Meetings
The Village Board will hold two meetings on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. A Committee of the Whole meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the Terrace Room, followed by a Regular Village Board Meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the Board Room.
Activity Reports
The weekly Police Bulletin has been updated for the week ending August 21, 2026. School crossing guards successfully settled into their routines for the 2026–27 school year. The Village welcomed new police officer Kevin Mendoza, who will attend the Police Academy in the coming weeks; he has served as a Community Service Officer since August 2024. Firefighter/Paramedic Elliot Kreuz graduated from the Lake Forest Hospital Paramedic Education Program on August 13 and is currently attending the NIPSTA Fire Academy, with a scheduled graduation date of September 4.
Save the Date
Plein Air Photography Competition runs August 17 through September 6, 2026. The Northbrook Arts Commission invites photographers of all ages and abilities to participate in a three-week competition celebrating Northbrook's places, people, and perspectives. The first set of challenges was released August 17 at 9 a.m.
Northbrook Brewfest takes place Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 3–7 p.m. in Village Green Park. The 6th Annual Brewfest is co-hosted by the Village and the Northbrook Park District, featuring craft beer tasting, live music, a photo booth, and games. Tickets will be available through the Northbrook Park District webpage.
Project Updates
Sales Tax: Collections through August 2026 (liability month May 2026) totaled $2,065,030, approximately 8% more than the $1,904,342 collected in the same period in 2025. Figures include the 1% municipal, 1% home rule, 1% local grocery, and 3% local cannabis taxes.
Skokie Boulevard Resurfacing: The Village has been awarded IDOT grant funding to resurface Skokie Boulevard from Lake Cook Road to the southern Village limits. The project was awarded to Builders Paving LLC for $2,247,438; the Village is responsible for 20% of the total cost. Notification letters were mailed to corridor residents this week, and work is expected to begin in early September.
Crestwood Senior Housing Roof Replacement (Phase 2): Beginning Monday, August 24, the Village's contractor will begin Phase 2, covering the middle and southern buildings and the peaked shingle roof. Completion is expected the week of September 21, weather permitting.
Techny Road Sidewalk & Kingston/Pfingsten Intersection Improvements: Design work is nearing completion for a sidewalk extension along the south side of Techny Road near Greenview Road and for intersection improvements at Kingston Drive and Pfingsten Road. The Village plans to bid both projects together in September to reduce costs.
2026 Sidewalk Replacement Program: Schroeder & Schroeder completed sidewalk removal and replacement along the even-numbered side of streets in Area 1 during the week of August 10. Minor driveway patching and restoration in Area 1 was anticipated for the week of August 17. Work in Areas 2, 3, and 4 (odd-numbered side) is planned to begin the week of August 24. FY 26–27 Concrete Street Patching: The Village's contractor began work in the Charlemagne subdivision during the week of August 17 to repair concrete streets and sidewalks. Intermittent lane and parking restrictions are expected near active work areas. Residents can subscribe to project updates via the Village's NotifyMe system. Fire Station 11 Construction: During the week of August 17, crews continued installing concrete masonry units (CMUs) on the south side of the worksite, underground electrical conduit, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing components. CMU and structural steel installation is expected to continue in the coming weeks.
Fleet Maintenance Garage Construction: Leopardo Construction completed structural steel installation at the south elevator and installed CMUs for the garage bathroom during the week of August 17. Work planned for the week of August 24 includes geothermal drilling, garage floor preparation for radiant heating, office framing, north elevator steel installation, and electrical work in the office area.
