Northbrook swore in its 25th Police Chief last week while four active construction projects — street patching, sidewalk replacement, water main work, and two major buildings — continue reshaping Village infrastructure heading into fall.

Activity Reports
The weekly Police Bulletin has been updated for the week ending August 28, 2026. Additionally, the Village Board held a meeting on August 25 at which Marc Fainman was ceremonially sworn in as the 25th Police Chief of the Northbrook Police Department. Fainman is a Glenbrook North graduate and 20-year veteran of the department, having served in roles ranging from Patrol Officer and Detective through Sergeant, Patrol Commander, and Deputy Chief.
The report also recognizes Police Dispatcher Brian D. Riley for 40 years of service to the Northbrook Police Department.
Save the Date
Plein Air Photography Competition runs August 17–September 6, 2026. The Northbrook Arts Commission invites photographers of all ages and abilities to submit work celebrating the places, people, and perspectives of Northbrook.
Northbrook Brewfest takes place Saturday, September 19, from 3–7 p.m. at Village Green Park. The 6th Annual Brewfest is co-hosted by the Village of Northbrook and the Northbrook Park District and features craft beer tasting, live music, a photo booth, and games. Food is available from surrounding restaurants or attendees may bring a picnic. Tickets will be available on the Northbrook Park District webpage.
125th Anniversary Open House is Sunday, November 15, from 2–4 p.m. at Village Hall. Activities include music, birthday cake, Touch-a-Truck, historical displays, and local artwork. At 3:15 p.m., attendees are invited to help recreate a community photograph originally taken in 1925. More information is available at northbrook125.com.
Project Updates
FY 26-27 Concrete Street Patching Improvements: Contractor Schroeder & Schroeder continued concrete panel removals and began pouring new panels in the Charlemagne Subdivision during the week of August 24. Work continues there through the week of August 31 and will also expand into Sky Harbor Business Park on the following streets: Wainwright Drive (Commercial Avenue to MacArthur Boulevard), MacArthur Boulevard (Wainwright Drive to Melvin Drive), and Melvin Drive (MacArthur Boulevard to Maria Avenue). Residents and businesses should expect intermittent lane and parking restrictions near active work areas. Updates are available via the Village's NotifyMe notification system. Crestwood Senior Housing Roof Replacement — Phase 2: Contractor Garland/DBS, Inc. began removing existing roofing materials from the middle and southern buildings during the week of August 24. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be complete by the week of September 21. Crestwood's facility management will keep residents informed of impacts throughout construction.
2026 Sidewalk Replacement Program: Schroeder & Schroeder completed sidewalk removal and replacement along odd-numbered sides of streets in Areas 2, 3, and 4 during the week of August 24. The week of August 31, weather permitting, work shifts to even-numbered sides in those same areas. 2026 Water Main Improvements: Contractor Curran Contracting continued work on Grace Road during the week of August 24, including a water main shutdown on Monday, August 24, to connect the new Grace Road main to the existing system on Pfingsten Road. Residents received 72-hour notice before that shutdown. During the week of August 31, the contractor plans pressure and chlorination testing and will begin water service transfers, each of which is expected to take approximately 1–2 hours. Fleet Maintenance Garage Construction: Contractor Leopardo Construction completed installation of exterior overhang steel and garage insulation tarp during the week of August 24. Planned work for the week of August 31 includes continued geothermal drilling, garage floor preparation for reinforcement and radiant heating tubing, office area framing, structural steel installation at the north elevator, electrical component installation in the office area, and the beginning of roof removal.
Fire Station 11 Construction: Leopardo Construction continued installing concrete masonry units (CMUs) along the south side of the worksite and within the apparatus bay, and continued structural steel framework installation during the week of August 24. Both activities are expected to remain ongoing for several weeks. Crews also continued underground electrical conduit installation along the north side and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work within the walls.
Building Permit and License Updates
On August 24, the Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously recommended approval of a variation to allow an increased front yard fence height on Sunset Ridge Road. The Plan Commission will hold a public hearing on September 1, 2026, on a Village-initiated request to rezone 5 Revere Drive from I-1 Restricted Industrial to O-3 General Office; no site or building changes are proposed, and the rezoning is intended to accommodate continued use of the existing multi-story office building for general office purposes.
