Manager's Report — 04 Sep 2026: Brewfest, Sewer Work, and Street Repairs Ramp Up

The Village Board holds two meetings on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. A Committee of the Whole session begins at 6 p.m. in the Terrace Room, followed by the Regular Village Board Meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the Board Room.

The Northbrook Police Department's weekly bulletin was updated for the week ending September 4, 2026. Separately, the Police Department launched the fall 2026 Citizens Police Academy, which kicked off its first class and will run for nine weeks through September and October. Community Relations staff also participated in an Active Threat Training for employees at Total Link 2.

Three community events are on the horizon:

• Plein Air Photography Competition (August 17 – September 6, 2026): The Northbrook Arts Commission is inviting photographers of all ages to submit work celebrating Northbrook's places, people, and perspectives. The competition closes September 6.
• 6th Annual Northbrook Brewfest (Saturday, September 19, 3–7 p.m., Village Green Park): The Village and the Northbrook Park District are co-hosting this craft beer tasting event featuring live music, a photo booth, and games. Food is available from nearby restaurants or visitors may bring a picnic. Tickets are sold through the Northbrook Park District website.
• 125th Anniversary Open House (Sunday, November 15, 2–4 p.m., Village Hall): The celebration includes music, a birthday cake, Touch-a-Truck, historical displays, and local artwork. At 3:15 p.m., attendees will help recreate a community photograph originally taken in 1925. More information is available at northbrook125.com.

Several infrastructure and construction projects are active or entering new phases:

Skokie Boulevard Resurfacing — Contractor Builders Paving installed construction signage during the week of August 31. Work runs from Lake Cook Road south to the Lifetime Fitness driveway. Starting September 8, curbside lanes within that stretch will close from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily while manhole structures are adjusted. Motorists should expect delays. FY26-27 Concrete Street Patching — Contractor Schroeder & Schroeder continued removing and pouring concrete panels and began saw cutting on streets in the Sky Harbor Business Park: Wainwright Drive (Commercial Avenue to MacArthur Boulevard), MacArthur Boulevard (Wainwright Drive to Melvin Drive), and Melvin Drive (MacArthur Boulevard to Maria Avenue). Panel removals along those segments are expected to begin the week of September 7. Intermittent lane and parking restrictions are anticipated. 2026 Sanitary Sewer Manhole Rehabilitation — Contractor BLD Services began rehabilitating 29 sanitary sewer manholes the week of August 31. Work is expected to improve structural integrity, reduce stormwater infiltration, and extend manhole service life. Completion is targeted for the week of September 14.

Sewer Lining Preparation — Contractor Hoerr Construction began cleaning and televising sewer mains the week of August 31 in preparation for the 2026 sewer lining program. That prep work is expected to wrap by September 8. Residents in the project area will receive a letter before lining begins in their area. The no-excavation lining process typically takes a few hours per location.

2026 Sidewalk Replacement — The contractor finished sidewalk removal and replacement along even-numbered sides of streets in Areas 2, 3, and 4 during the week of August 31. During the week of September 7, work shifts to restoration, site cleanup, and minor driveway patching. Driveway access will be maintained. 2026 Water Main Improvements (Grace Road) — Contractor Curran Contracting completed pressure and chlorination testing during the week of August 31. Water service transfers are expected to begin the week of September 7. Each transfer will interrupt water service to affected homes for approximately one to two hours; residents will receive a door hanger notice 24 hours in advance. Fleet Maintenance Garage — Contractor Leopardo Construction finished installing the first of three concrete slab reinforcement layers and radiant heating tubing, and completed roof removal over the office area. Work planned for the week of September 7 includes geothermal drilling, office-area framing, structural steel at the north elevator, MEP rough-in work, roof installation over the office area, and the second and third reinforcement layers for the garage floor slab.

Fire Station 11 — Also under Leopardo Construction, structural steel installation continued on the north side of the site during the week of August 31, along with decking, masonry, and underground electrical conduit work. The week of September 7 is expected to bring precast plank installation at the hose tower and apparatus bay mezzanine, exterior framing along the north elevation, and continued utility work on the east and south sides.

ComEd Vegetation Management — Within the next three months, ComEd will trim trees and branches interfering with power lines in the right-of-way, primarily in the western portion of the Village.
