When did you live in Northbrook, and what are your foundational memories of growing up or living in the community?

I lived in Northbrook from 1985 until 2005. Foundational memories: evening hangs with the neighborhood kids in Sanders Crossing, my first job working at The Book Bin, performing with the school choirs, spending time at the library.

Tell us a bit about your life today — where are you living now, what do you do for work, and what keeps you busy?

I’m living in Chicago as a musician, touring internationally with my husband Josh and my band The Empty Pockets. Chicago has an amazing music scene so when I’m not playing, I’m seeing shows as often as possible. We try to go to as many baseball games as possible, often at Wrigley but also at The Rate. Walking around my neighborhood is one of my favorite things to do. And I love our food scene, so I find myself walking a lot of miles to go to a game, a restaurant, or an event.

When you lived in Northbrook, what did you love to do for fun, and where did you usually spend your free time?

Making up dances with my friends at their houses. I honestly spent a lot of my time at school doing before-school and after-school activities or performing groups.

Why does Northbrook remain important to you, and what do you miss most about the community?

I had wonderful teachers throughout the years I went to school, and I treasure the good friends I made along the way.

Looking back, what is the best piece of advice or local recommendation you would give to a family moving to Northbrook today?

Take advantage of the downtown area! I always wished I lived closer to the center of Northbrook where there are cool shops like the Book Bin, great restaurants, and a beautiful park full of community events. A great place to have a family.

Lightning Round

What was your absolute go-to local spot to hang out, grab a bite, or meet up with friends?

TGI Friday’s near GBN

Back in your day, what did you consider the best “hidden gem” in town?

Oliverii's Italian Restaurant! Great food and the kindest people. Such a vibe.

If you had to describe your Northbrook experience in exactly three words, what would they be?

A nice community.

Anything else you’d like to add?

Thanks for caring about my hometown!!!
