Todd Luke
By Colin Danley
This week's featured Northbrookian is Todd Luke. Todd is an attorney by trade, but he and his wife spend much of their time as missionairies in the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, helping local families build water cisterns to capture, store, and dispense rainwater in areas where clean water access is lacking (a link to his project can be found here).

How long have you lived in Northbrook, and what originally brought you to the community?
My parents moved to Northbrook in 1972 when I was four years old.
Tell us a bit about your life — what do you do for work, and what keeps you busy during the week?
I help families work together to solve their water scarcity problems in a jungle region of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. I may spend months at a time in Mexico, but Northbrook is my home base. I also have a small immigration law practice with clients from Cook and Lake County.
What does your family love to do for fun around town, or how do you prefer to spend a free weekend in the area?
Techny Prairie Park is where we go to bike, walk, run, and play soccer. The playground, sled hill, and pond also entertain us. In the summer, Meadowhill pool and the velodrome are also popular destinations.
Why is Northbrook important to you, and what is your favorite thing about living in this community?
I attended Greenbriar, NBJH, and GBN. It was important to give my children the same quality education experience. Northbrook is where kids can safely walk and ride bikes around town.
If someone were moving to Northbrook tomorrow, what is the first piece of advice or local recommendation you would give them?
Find a house of worship where your family feels welcome, and discover how the deli at Sunset Foods can make meal time easy and delicious.

Lightning Round
Where is your go-to local spot for a meeting or a great cup of coffee?
Bean Bar
What do you consider the best “hidden gem” in town?
Not hidden, but certainly underappreciated. I can pick up so many things quickly at the shops in Meadow Plaza.
If you had to describe Northbrook in exactly three words, what would they be?
A peaceful hometown.
